self-portrait // drawingwiffwaffles contest entry // pen, watercolor, ink

Hey guys!

If you don't already know about DrawingWiffWaffles, she's an awesome artist on Youtube who's reached her 50,000 subscriber mark. To celebrate, she's put on a self-portrait contest that I've entered in. The winners from four age groups will be randomly selected, and out of those four one will be chosen as the first prize winner.

I thought it would be fun to enter something, so this is what I came up with, drawn in my own style.

I used mostly Prismacolors for the clothes/hair and accessories, and also used a Copic for the skintone (which is a bit too dark, actually. Accidentally bought the wrong marker). The counter is watercolor, and the borderline is sharpie.

DrawingWiffWaffles is a huge inspiration to me, and I definitely recommend checking her out :)

Sincerely,
Darrion

self-portrait // sketchbook // lineart

Hey everyone!

I forgot to post this self-portrait from my last sketchbook, but May 12th isn't that long ago, right?

I tried a different angle than last time, and I think it resembles me better... what do you think?

Though I haven't posted much artwork lately, that doesn't mean I haven't been drawing. I filled my second sketchbook and have started on my third, who's size exposes it's own challenges. Hopefully, I'll post something about my second sketchbook in the near future.

But, you never know with me :)

Sincerely,
Darrion

sewing project // frozen // anna's coronation dress

Hey everyone!

I know I haven't been posting much, hence this update post...

I don't know if I've ever told you, but Willow and I have been taking sewing lessons for a while now, and we've finally come to the point where we can sew princess dresses (with much assistance, of course).

Originally, I wanted to do Cinderella's dress from the new movie, but Willow wanted to do Belle's dress at the same time, and seeing that we still haven't got a good look at it in the trailers, we though it would be better to wait and do them together.

Anna's coronation dress is going to be a tough one, especially compared to Elsa's coronation dress, which Willow is doing. There's a thousand patterns on the skirt. I'm sure mine will take much longer than hers to complete.

At the moment, I am working on her bustier, which is velveteen. I have all of the fabric, and have cut out most of the applique.

Pattern wise, I'm using this Simplicity pattern for adults.

Look at that. Just look at all of those designs on her skirt.

Groan...

I have a bad feeling about this (jinx!).

Sincerely,
Darrion

may the fourth be with you // revenge of the fifth // star wars fanart // pen

Hey everyone, and may the fourth be with you all! :) And... you know, if you're a Sith, the fifth is your day of revenge, I guess.

Yes, it's fandom time. The wordplay in May is two days all for the Star Wars fandom to pull on their Wookie T-shirts and do their hair up in Rey buns. And for me, it's time for the fanart to begin.

I did this in my new (and third) sketchbook, which is a mixed media 9'' by 12''.

supplies:
white gel pen
red sharpie
thin black sharpie
thick black sharpie
black prismacolor brushpen
 red scholar (prismacolor) brushmarker
blue copic brushmarker (BG02)

Hope you all had a great May fourth and fifth, and may the force be with you all!

Sincerely,
Darrion

ninjago cole fanart // pencil, pen, watercolor

hey guys!

first off, we're gonna try and make this post a quick one, so here we go...

this is cole from the ninjago tv series, and this sketch illustrates how i put the proverbial cherry on the cake to finish off a sketch.

a simple sketch... nothing special, tucked in the corner of my sketchbook

framed with a green rectangle of cheap coloring pens

lined with a dark green le pen and a few details added to his face in pencil

quick wash of watercolor over the green to smooth it out

finished

if you've got a special way to finish off a sketch, let me know in the comments!
i'd love to hear it and try it out :)

sincerely,
darrion
