i'm entering a thing!

Hey everybody!

I just thought I'd let you know that I'm entering artwork into the fair again this year! But this time, I won't be demonstrating.

To tell you the truth, I'm not a real fan of fairs. That greasy smell mixed with the woosh of rollercoasters and screams of their riders isn't that appealing to me. Also, youths holding hands and taking selfies aren't too fun to be around, either.

But I do like looking at entries in both art and photography, and maybe a tad bit of sewing also.

My sister Willow entered a dress she made, and a watercolor of the door of Sherlock Holmes, 221 B. Bakerstreet.

I entered a watercolor of a blue Hobbit Hole door. Not Bilbo's house (the green door), but a mixture of two other Hobbit holes. I liked the scenery in one, but wanted the blue door of the other. So I added it :) My sister and I worked on our doors with our art teacher every Thursday for about six months to a year. Yep, it took forever. Which is why we got them framed and matted all fancy.

Unfortunately, I didn't think to take a picture of the finished product before I submitted it. Oops :/ I wish I could show you guys, but I guess you'll just have to wait 'till the next "thing" post to see it :)

I do, on the other hand, have a picture of the other entry, a pencil and colored pencil portrait.

(credit to Willow for holding it for two seconds {Willow's note: it was longer than two seconds! At least ten!} while I got the above picture)

Usually, I don't post things I do for gifts. But this is an exception, since I borrowed it back to enter into the fair. I did it for a friend from church, Jenna, who was graduating from school. I had wanted to do something big and in depth for a while, and this seemed like a good opportunity.

Normally, I'd never do something this big for a gift. I try to make things good, but this was a lot bigger than I thought it would be at the start. But since she was graduating, which is kind of a big deal, I thought "why not?"

Jenna really likes vintage things, especially clothing. And since I wanted to draw her in a vintage dress, I pulled a picture off of Pinterest of a lady from Downton Abbey in this wonderful striped dress. Willow and I had done a photoshoot with Jenna awhile ago, so I got a picture of her from one of those photos and mentally transplanted her head onto the neck of the dress lady. Drawing the bottom half as the dress and the top half as her very own head and face, I got the perfect picture.

This took about a week or two to complete (I think...), since her party was coming up soon. It was very rushed, and to tell the truth I nearly broke down in front of my teacher because I had to redraw the outline so many times, but I made it in the end!

Since they don't contact you and let you know what place you've gotten (and we've forbade our friends from spoilers), we'll be heading out to the fair to see for ourselves. I'll make a post about that trip as soon as possible, so keep a whether eye on the horizon for that :)

If you're interested in seeing my entries in the fair last year, as well as hear the stories about demonstrating, click here for the part one and here for part two.

Thanks for viewing, guys! Wish me luck :)

Sincerely,
Darrion

edmund // narnia // pencil

Hey guys!

I haven't posted fanart for some time now, so here's something I finished a while ago...

I've liked Narnia since I was a kid, when Mom got my sister and I an audio drama with all seven Narnia books. It was really well done, and we were captivated by the stories.

We watched the movies too, and Willow and I have different opinions on how they did on the Voyage of the Dawn Treader. It's my favorite Narnia movie, and also pretty high on my favorite movie list :)

Out of those movies, I liked Edmund and Eustace the best as characters, and Lucy comes right behind them.

Anyway, I was in the Narnia mood, so I drew little Edmund from the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. He wasn't so great in that movie, but I guess I've just got a thing for flawed characters (*cough cough* Boba Fett, Thorin, Bucky, Hans from Frozen (please don't kill me for that, I just find him an interesting villain), Flynn from Tangled, etc.).

He ended up really well, and was quite fun to draw. Lining things up is really helpful, but also rather difficult. I used lines to get his face right, and I think it worked... His right eye is a bit off, though.

...And I also got lazy and didn't draw his collar or shirt. So, that's why there's this dip in his neck. That's where the collar was going to be.

Anyway, I'll try to finish up more fanart for ya. I hope you guys like this one! Write you later :)

Sincerely,
Darrion

If fives, echo, heavy, and boil are more than just words to you... // throwback thursday

... You just might be a Clone Wars fan.

*thumbs up for you*

   Must... escape... Hobbit tears..!

Ah, here we go! Another fandom to emotional attach myself to.

Most of the recent posts/fanart have been Hobbit related, but this time, it's time to escape the fandom tears and fall back on a old fandom of mine.

Star Wars.

The fandom that nearly everyone is on bored with, and my first. That of course makes it very close to my heart. I'm not so much into the movies themselves as the TV series, Star Wars: the Clone Wars.

We (Willow and I) started watching it at about the second season, with the Geonosis episodes (you know, with Ahsoka and Barris). Immediately, we were hooked.

My favorite characters have always been the clones, and I really wish they would have had more episodes with emphasis on the soldiers of the republic.

*me telling the directors to put more clones in*
*them saying nope*

Have any of you seen season six yet? I haven't seen the whole thing, just the Fives episodes. FEELS. The worst feels I've had since the Battle of the Five Armies.

*REAL TEARS, PEOPLE*

It's so hard, because it started with them. A squad of rookie clone troopers on the Rishi outpost (Kamino's moon), impatient to see action. And yeah, they get it. Leaving only two survivors, Echo and Fives, these clones go through a lot and are in many episodes to come. Then, it's all over.

*it moved me, bob*

Now I haven't seen the new series that's out yet (Star Wars Rebels), but I've heard some things... but I certainly wasn't satisfied with them just dropping the Clone Wars like they did. What about Ahsoka, Rex, teen Boba, etc.? Whatever happened to them? I guess we'll find out in the upcoming episodes of Rebels, but they way they're just throwing the clones away... They expect us to love them in the Clone Wars, and hate them in Rebels. Is that really fair? Every time I see them hit a stormtrooper, I'm thinking, "That could be Kix, or Jesse."

*well that got deep real fast*

And the clones, that's another thing! It's hard for me to see Rex shooting a Jedi in the back, though all clones are sort of... 'compelled' to do so. But still...

Also, REX. WOLFFE. GREGOR (if that is him, it's not confirmed, only speculated). Guess who ain't dead?

*hugs and kisses to the writers of Rebels*

I don't know where they're going with Rebels, but I hope they do my favorite characters justice. I loved them so much, and they're so close to me, that... you know...

*whispers aggressively* don't mess this up

Sincerely,
Darrion

P.S., This was a little throw-back-Thursday, fandom style. Would you like another? If so, comment below :) If you're a Clone Wars (or just a Star Wars) fan, know that you aren't alone here :)

again // without her

alone

again

but not technically

a room full of people

smiling

joking

laughing

but without her

 she knew their faces

but who knew hers?

smiling

joking

laughing

right next to her

but without her

again

she took a moment to breathe

to be content with just herself

smiling

but nobody sees

joking

but nobody responds

laughing

but nobody hears

it's okay

there will be other days

other people

other times

alone

again

but that's okay

there will be times

without her

sincerely,
darrion

p.s., this one is a little depressing... sorry about that. we just got back from vacation to california, so i went scrambling through blog drafts for something to post, and found this. i've just been trying to think of how i sometimes feel in a different way, to pass the time. back to the usual stuff later :)
